The tools on this page are designed to help classroom teachers reap the greatest benefits of their DIBELS data as they decide how to proceed with instruction for their students.
What these tools aren’t…
- These tools are not comprehensive RTI management software. They can help teachers implement RTI, but are, by design, limited to processing DIBELS scores for one classroom at a time.
- These tools do not provide training in how to administer the DIBELS measures. Rather, they are intended to be used by classroom teachers who are proficient in administering the DIBELS assessments.
The tools may be useful for teachers who are using DIBELS assessments but do not have access to any of the commercial services that manage test data and provide a variety of printouts. Other teachers may have access to a commercial service, but, in addition, would like the convenience of having test results available on their classroom computer. Anyone may download these tools at any time, free of charge, and use them to manage DIBELS scores for the students in their classroom.
There are two tools available on this website:
1. DIBELS Score Manager is an MS Excel file that manages students’ benchmark testing and progress monitoring scores and helps teachers track their students progress toward achieving the benchmark targets for their grade. There is a different file for each grade level. The teacher administers the prompts by hand, scores them, and enters the scores on the Data Entry tab. The DIBELS Score Manager then indicates which students are at Benchmark, Strategic or Intensive and also provides the progress monitoring graphs that teachers plot by hand on the front of the student answer booklets. All of the information is automatically updated when new scores are entered, so the teacher has instant access to test results.
To use this tool, download the file for your grade level and replace “TeacherName” in the file name with your name. When you open the file, you will see a short set of instructions that explains where to enter the scores and how to access the various charts.
Click on your grade level to download materials:

2. DIBELS DecisionMaker Database is an MS Access database that organizes diagnostic information about students’ DIBELS response patterns and suggests how students might be grouped for tailored skill-building instruction. This tool will be available in the near future.
